Instructions
This program demonstrates some aspects of the paper
Perceptual Models of Viewpoint Preference by Secord et al.
It has 3 modes:
- Visualizer - see the "goodness" of different views over the sphere
of viewing directions. It also shows several of the
attributes that contribute to the goodness measure.
- Trackball - a modified trackball that steers towards good
views and avoids bad views. The mouse has two actions:
- Drag: the usual trackball, but
gently nudged towards better views.
A slider controls the nudge strength.
- Throw: the full path is modified to try to improve the end
result. In addition to the strength slider, a friction slider slows
motion over time.
For comparision, modified and unmodified motions are
shown in pink and black, respectively, on the right.
- Orbit - allows you to orbit the object, either using a traditional
turntable or a modified orbit that tries to pass through better views.
You can drag the model or slider, or simply click "play".
Use the tabs below the viewer window to select modes.
Below the tabs you can select models and control mode-specific parameters.
To see these instructions again choose "About" from the "goodView" menu.
